Demons in Perspective
An understanding of demons and demonic activity.
I am writing this item, 'Demons in Perspective', in the hope that it might reassure a few people who are worried that demons have invaded their lives - by putting some fears into perspective. The problem is that demons have, rightly or wrongly, managed to get themselves a bad name - not that they had a good one to start with. I probably should have said 'bad press' or 'bad media' because that's what feeds people's current understanding of demons and demonic activity - it's a word that's become a label for anything evil ... or even, nowadays, simply not very nice. It would be better if people said demonic-like activity as it's more accurate.
What is a demon? Can demons harm people? Do demons exist as actual beings in reality and in their own right? That's really down to each individual's belief. If we could all agree on answers to those questions, half the arguments about the paranormal and occult would vanish - as would a lot of unnecessary fear on the subject - that would disappear too.
In orthodox religion the teaching is that they exist alright but as the evil opposites of angels - I think that gets put in because the demonic horde were once angels who fell from grace and have had it in for mankind ever since. This in itself comes from way back in history (but which is still in other mainstream religions) where there was no difference between demons and angels - they are messengers of various kinds - djinns, for example, in Muslim belief.
Some Eastern belief says that there are indeed demons - but not all of them are really evil. (OK, some are pretty bad.)
Other beliefs - wichcraft and wicca mostly do not believe in demons, as such, but go along with energies and forces to an extent.
Hollywood and the press believe in them financially and cause many people to believe in them terrifyingly - and that's where the problems start.
From what I've put, I'm not trying to make a case that demons are really good guys but have had a bad press lately - not at all!!! I just tried to give a view of where their original concepts stem from. The concept is, today, firmly entrenched in paranormal and supernatural philosophy and so it should be but where it can lead to is the most worrying aspect. I'm referring to those who 'cash in' or 'trade' on other's understandable fears about demons.
There could be 101 explanations for something but no ... nowadays, if it ain't a ghost – it's a demon. Most people with psychic abilities very soon realise that there are more 'beings', 'existences' or 'forces' to the psychic and paranormal realms than simply ghosts and demons. If they are not ghosts then figuring out what they are might not be easy – being able to make sense of them might not be easy – dealing with them might not be easy - but they are NOT all demonic.
The problem is that demons sell! They make people sit up and take notice! They are awesome! They are frightening! They are the thing of the moment! They are today's buzzword - allowing some to claim that suddenly they are an expert on demons - and the tragedy is that they really believe it too. As a result, many innocent people will be convinced that paranormal experiences they are having are demonic in nature - the demon band wagon rolls again.
But that's where the biggest 'demon' danger now comes from. People trying to get a reputation for being the best 'Demon Buster' around. The first thing a self-styled Buster must do is give the status of "Demon" to whatever is bugging a victim of paranormal happenings. The next priority is to scare the daylights out of everyone – hype it up a few notches on the 'evil metre' and for good measure hype it up a few notches on 'threat metre' as well.
So, instead of properly looking at a situation and working out what's really going on and dealing with that – we get some odd version of the exorcist or any other influence that pulls the Buster's string at the time. Suddenly, from what should have been a straight forward(?) eviction/guiding/enlightening of some confused lower entity, all hell breaks loose (that might be apt). By trying to evict something that's not there can open up doors and channels - not just for exiting use - they can be used for entry just as easily.
That might be why Busters always stress how dangerous their work is and nobody but them should go near it. It is also amazing the number of accounts we see from Busters that things were far worse than they first appeared - not surprising when they made them that way themselves!! And if you isolate a Buster who always says this - you've found a dangerous person to be with in paranormal situations.
If you are suffering some kind of paranormal outrage - just because it's probably not demonic doesn't make it any less real. And to help you properly - everything must be considered. The moral is - always make absolutely certain of what your dealing with and if you don't know - get help! But get helpers who actually know what they are doing - there are a lot of people here on Perception9 Paranormal and other genuine sites dealing with the paranormal who will help ... and who will help you honestly!!
