States of Consciousness
Mass Consciousness;Individual or group thought (similar in energy) that is projected out and perceived and acted upon by others who are on the same wavelength (in the same energy or state of consciousness) that creates a group/mass consciousness, thus forming a collective consciousness. Circumstances/intentions which first created the thoughts bring about a group energy which can be used positively or negatively, can create supportive energies through prayer with intentions of healing, or, conversely, the group can be caught up in negative thinking/actions that can bring about mob mentality or mass hysteria.
Altered State of Awareness; Some practices that may contribute to inducing an altered state of consciousness include religious ceremonies, beliefs/practices; meditation; rituals and chanting. Illness and accidents can also contribute to altered states of consciousness or mystical experiences. An accident may assist in someone having a mystical experience through the intense pain that is being endured and can become a catalyst for an OBE or the pain may cause the body to release a neuro-chemical response, thus producing an altered state of awareness. Stimulation of the senses through movement/dance or the use of sound/flashing lights can induce an altered state, with instruments such as drum beats, bells, brass or crystal bowls. Recreational drugs, alcohol, sleep deprivation, fasting and many others factors can contribute to an altered state of consciousness (awareness). The only problem with artificially induced states is that there is no control over the outcome or the desired level that is wished to be achieved.
Sleep State;Alpha, beta and theta states; depending on our awareness or lack of awareness these can become pleasurable/disagreeable states that can produce euphoria, lucidity, rapture or fear.
Unconsciousness;Comatose, unaware, insentient, oblivious, insensible, unmindful.
Subconscious; The state below our mind's wakeful functioning where we may experience a trance state, sleep or dreaming, also a subconscious state can be brought about through our emotions and unconscious thoughts. Sometimes while in a state of conscious awareness we are not fully aware of our actions or mental responses to subliminal messages/emotional triggers coming to us from beneath our conscious awareness, so that we respond intuitively or viscerally to the external demands of the physical, mental and emotional bodies. A person may want to recall something such as a name or a forgotten procedure; as all information relating to our experiences is retained within the subconscious at all times, our subconscious mind can bring forth into our conscious awareness the forgotten word, name or activity, although not necessarily immediately ... humorous - 'it seems to have a mind of its own'.
Consciousness; The normal state of awareness we find ourselves in as we go about our daily lives includes our mental awareness, realization, conscious clarity of focus/perception of our physical reality while being fully awake. One can experience a change in consciousness even though fully awake. In this 'awake' state, one can experience altered states of awareness such as day dreaming, getting wrapped up in a conversation, listening to music, or any other form of activity that becomes our focus of world perception and captures our attention so that the concept of time is lost.
Super-Consciousness;That part of the mind or psyche connected to the higher aspects of self. Sometimes the experience can be only fleeting moments of raised consciousness and enlightenment; however, it can also become a prolonged state of an exalted nature. Such an experience or state can be achieved through spiritual pursuits such as meditation, chanting, affirmation and prayer, although another ingredient that should be considered in reaching for this super conscious level is "what is our intent for wanting to reach that state?" If our motive is ego-based (looking for bragging rights, wishing to impress others, etc) the possibility of reaching super-consciousness can become a very ego-created superficial, experience ... reaching this super-consciousness through spiritual endeavors is referred to by some as achieving Supra-consciousness.
If the physical and psychic exist simultaneously and the soul and the universe are one, as I feel all consciousness is, then reaching the state of super-consciousness/supra-consciousness is attainable. We may not even be aware that we are at that level of awareness; however, glimmers of actualization can be witnessed through the creative endeavors of artists/musicians/song writers and orators who seem to be 'in-tune' and produce magnificent works with effortless ease. This could account for several songs or movies which appear to be very similar in nature, slightly different words but similar meaning; only the writer/artist interpreted the Universal Consciousness/Super Conscious Mind in his/her unique style and captured the essence of what was inspirationally/intuitively being conveyed.
Sometimes, without knowing, the 'inspiration' may stop and the artists/writers/musicians fail to realize that what they took for granted (their conscious/subconscious/super-conscious connection) would always be there. Some may try to regain their creative ability artificially through the use of outside stimulants but this may work against their desired outcome and have undesirable side-effects.
When body mind and spirit are not in harmony, our conscious mind draws from experiences stored at a subconscious level of mind; this can help encourage us to free ourselves from and release unpleasant memories stored within the physical body at a cellular level (in the form of aches and pains, etc.) provided the soul is ready and willing to let go of those past experiences; this in turn can provide us with an opportunity to return the body to a peaceful relaxed state which raises our vibratory level; this can assist us to seek connection with the Super-consciousness (if this is our desire.)
When one becomes aware that no person or thing is truly separate from anything else and we are all in a spiritual at-one-ment or connectedness with God/the Source, entering such an exalted state as Supra-Consciousness can become part of our personal earthly experience.
