The EVPS Paranormal Group conducted a paranormal investigation on June 26, 2010 from 3:30p.m. at the Slaughter Pen Farm, Fredericksburg VA. Civil War Battlefield.
Veterans of the Battle of Fredericksburg, who returned to this site, recalled the fierce and vicious fighting that occurred there on 13th December, 1862, and decided to rename the farm and the accompanying acres 'Slaughter Pen Farm'. For those who had experienced the fighting here, it was a fitting name. It is also a fitting name for a site with so much paranormal activity reported.
Fighting began at noon on 13th December as Union and Confederate troops exchanged gunfire.
Gen. George Meade pushed ahead several hours later when he saw an opportunity to break through the Confederate lines.
Twice the men under his command surged forward, and each time he was pushed back and prevented from gaining any ground.
Finally, Union troops under the command of John Gibbons pushed back the Confederates.
The victory was short lived. Suffering heavy casualties the Union stumbled, unable to push the Confederates back any farther. This setback and the losses at Marye's Heights ultimately forced Ambrose Burnside to retreat back across the Rappahannock River and regroup.
The following pictures were taken in the woods surrounding the fields at Slaughter Pen Farm.
The possible presence of the 9,000 men who lost their lives here, remains indelible in the fields, that remains untouched from that day, almost 140 years ago.
