A Short Biography about Ray Farrell
All of my life, I have been psychic. Even as a very young child, I scared the wits out of my parents by talking to people who weren't there and who shouldn't have been there as they were no longer living. I blurringly remember some of those chats, especially one old chap that I used to natter on to - but who my mother recognised from my description of him ... and from his name that I also knew from him - Dan. She also knew that he had been dead twenty years. ... Dan was a ghost then! All of this was this wrapped up in the exceedingly dilapidated 15th century farm cottage where we lived - it was a good start to an acceptance of the paranormal throughout my life.
As I got older, I seemed to know what people were thinking and found that I seemed to know things 'out of the blue'. The ghosts of my infancy were replaced by different ones when we moved but I had more to do at that age than to spend time chatting to ghosts, spirits or whatever. Even at that age, I found that I could pick and choose whether to bother with them or not. Occasionally, some spirit would take me unawares but I didn't worry about it. It all semed normal to me.
I certainly found that I could pick up the atmosphere of a place if something ghostly or otherwise paranormal was happening there. Again, I could switch in and out of 'bothering' to take that further - but when you are growing up, the here and now seems more important than worrying about much else - especially ghosts and spirits.
Even so, I also discovered the auras of the living around about that time - although I didn't have a clue what they were. It was just that if I looked properly, I could see people 'glowing' in different colours. Good fun though. I think that this was one of those instances when I started to discover that what I could experience wasn't 'normal' to the rest of my childhood world - trying to get a friend to see a particular aura and being met with odd looks from the friend was a bit telling.
Later, for a time, I became an avid reader of books on the supernatural and paranormal - a lot of which I promptly discounted as they didn't ring any bells with what I was discovering in my own way. I had learned another lesson - don't believe a word of anything in this sphere of study until you have satisfied yourself that it might be valid. I came to the conclusion that a lot of stuff had not been written to further the understanding of the unexplained but had been written to further someone's bank account or some other vested interest of the author. It was a regular thing to read 'only known to ...' - why write the book if it remains 'only known to ...'? What's the point? I had discovered mystical bullsh*t!
Other discoveries that I made along the way were -
Never say that there is only one way to do psychic or paranormal things when it comes to interaction with ghosts ... or any other aspect of the paranormal and supernatural. As people are different, then everybody's abilities are different ... so their impressions can be seemingly different. Approaches might not appear the same due to the differences in how people might term and understand things. There is no 'only' path that must be followed because it all comes down to how each individual relates to the psychic and to the spiritual.
Those that know the most, say the least. Quietly doing and helping is the bedrock of deeper understanding. (Whatever I do or don't know - I do know that!)
When help is truly needed, it should be freely given - wherever and whenever possible.
So, I'll leave out all the other "I did this ... " - "I did that ... " bits that followed on from those early days. The early days were the ones that charted my course - I'll simply put that I followed ... and still follow that course.
... except to say that the culmination of what I could offer is this, the Perception9 Paranormal website. My son Jonathan and I set it up - we both think along the same lines ... to help, learn, understand and perhaps guide where we can. But just as importantly, to give a place for voices and ideas to be freely and safely heard on the very real but still very taboo subjects of ghosts, beings and our place in that other reality.
